Involvement in Observation Efforts for Argentina’s 2025 Legislative Elections

The National Electoral Chamber (Cámara Nacional Electoral) and the National Electoral Directorate (Dirección Nacional Electoral) invited the A-WEB Secretariat to participate in the International Visitors Program for the 2025 Legislative Elections in Argentina, which took place from 23 to 26 October 2025. This election marked the first ever national election where the single ballot paper (Boleta Única de Papel, BUP) was used.

Previously, Argentina used the traditional multi-ballot system, where voters were given separate ballots for each party and candidate. Voters would select the ballot of their choice, place it in an envelope, and then deposit the envelope in the ballot box.

Although Argentina does not host formal election observation missions, the country places strong importance on international engagement and knowledge exchange during its electoral processes. The Visitors Program provided an opportunity for institutions and experts to learn about the electoral context, administrative procedures, and organizational arrangements for the legislative elections.

Ms. Ina Kim Lee, Deputy Director of Electoral Research & Observation, participated in the Program on behalf of the Secretariat. Her involvement also provided valuable exposure to Argentina’s administrative approaches, which will contribute to the Secretariat’s work in developing resources and exchanges for A-WEB member EMBs. The visit also offered an occasion to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between A-WEB and Argentina’s electoral authorities.

A-WEB expresses its appreciation to the National Electoral Chamber and the National Electoral Directorate for their warm invitation and coordination. The Secretariat looks forward to continued knowledge-sharing with Argentina’s electoral institutions and to future opportunities for collaborative learning.
