Sharing and Learning Through the International Mission for Colombia’s Youth Council Elections

Two staff members of the A-WEB Secretariat participated in the International Observation Mission for the Municipal and Local Youth Council Elections, held on 19 October 2025 in the Republic of Colombia at the invitation of the National Electoral Council (CNE).

This marked the second time that the Youth Council elections were held, following their inaugural edition in 2021. In a country with more than 12 million young people, the Youth Council Elections serve as an important initiative to strengthen civic engagement and encourage young people’s involvement in democratic processes. By joining selected observation activities within the broader international mission, the Secretariat staff had the opportunity to learn from Colombia’s experience and exchange perspectives with other participating organizations.

Through their participation, the Secretariat gained insights into Colombia’s approaches to youth electoral inclusion, polling operations, and strategies to promote transparency and accessibility. The Mission also allowed the staff members to observe the professionalism of electoral officials and the EMB’s efforts to ensure a well-administered process.

The Secretariat extends its gratitude to the CNE for its warm coordination and support and looks forward to continued knowledge-sharing with member EMBs on fostering inclusive and participatory elections.
