The Election Commission of India and the A-WEB India Center hosted International Webinar under the theme of “Enhancing Electoral Participation of Women, Persons with Disabilities & Senior Citizens: Sharing Best Practices and New Initiatives” on 26 November.
Mr. Jonghyun Choe, Secretary General of A-WEB, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of achieving equal participation in elections and seeking ways to enhance the electoral participation of women, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
Mr. Seung Kim, Deputy Director of the Secretariat, was invited to give a presentation. He discussed ways to improve the voting convenience of voters with disabilities. His presentation addressed three common challenges that voters with disabilities are facing, as well as suggestions to improve the common issues: difficulties in accessing polling stations; lack of understanding of and consideration for voters with disabilities; and lack of publicity and evaluation of the current electoral system.
