The 5th General Assembly meeting of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) was concluded on 21 October 2022. The Meeting was held in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, with the participation of members and partner organizations of A-WEB. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his opening remarks, congratulated the event, which brought together election officials from around the world in a place that inherited Nelson Mandela's legacy. President Ramaphosa stated that strengthening the capacity of election management agencies can contribute to the development of democracy and also emphasized that cooperation among election management agencies is necessary in difficult times.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa, the host organization for this event, said that they consider this Assembly a very historic event as it is the first meaningful event held on the African continent by A-WEB and they sincerely welcome A-WEB member organizations from around the world. The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa, Mosotho Moepya, succeeded in the chairmanship of A-WEB from the Chief Election Commissioner of India and was inaugurated as the 5th A-WEB Chairman.

A-WEB is the world's largest election management international organization with 119 election management agencies from 109 countries around the world as members. It was held as an exhibition for the South African election and an international conference on the 20th. At this meeting, which was attended by about 200 electoral officials and experts from each country, business results for 2019-22 and business plans for 2023 continental executive board member A-WEB regional center activities were reported. Candidate In-sik Jang (former senior expert member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, assistant minister) was elected, and as the new vice-chairman, Colombia's National Civil Registry (RNEC) was elected through a vote among candidates from election management agencies in five countries.

As the former Secretary General's term expired, two election management agencies applied for candidate registration, and among them, the Republic of Korea's candidate, In-sik Jang, was unanimously elected by the member organizations present at the General Assembly. In his inaugural speech, Secretary General In-sik Jang announced that the A-WEB Secretariat will make great efforts to more actively share knowledge and experience in the field of election management among members and partner organizations as the hub for meaningful exchange among A-WEB members.
