Vice-Chairperson of the Association of World Election BodiesGlen Mashinini
Mr. Mashinini is the current Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa. He was appointed to this position by the President of the Republic of South Africa in September 2015 after he had been appointed as a Commissioner in April of the same year. Prior to this appointment as a Commissioner in the Electoral Commission, Mr. Mashinini was the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of South Africa on Special Projects. As Special Advisor to the President, Mr. Mashinini was part of a cohort of experts that developed a country report on the reform of State Owned Entities.
Mr. Mashinini has extensive experience in the area of election management, strategy and organizational development. He has held executive positions in the area of Election Management, initially as Deputy Chief Electoral Officer responsible for the administration of the Electoral Commission’s National head office, the nine administrative provinces and the Municipal Electoral offices. While in this position Mr. Mashinini was instrumental in the initial establishment and setting up of the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa.
After completing this national task, Mr. Mashinini moved into private consultancy in the Election Management arena where he was co-founder and Chief Electoral Officer of Mchunu Mashinini & Associates (MM&A), a private company specializing in electoral management and consulting.
Whilst still in the private practice, Mr. Mashinini further established Nullarbor Management consulting company that was responsible for corporate strategic planning, business planning, governance and policy development as well as supply chain and logistics management and planning.
In his early years Mr. Mashinini held the portfolio of Director of Education and Development at the Natal Playhouse Company where he was responsible for the transformation of the arts and cultural aspects in the province of Kwazulu Natal through development and training of aspirant artists, arts administrators, and culture and heritage practitioners in communities.
