This is in line with the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (2007); the AU/OAU Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa (2002); the African Peer Review Mechanism (2003); the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance (A/SP1/12/01), Supplementary to the Protocol relating to the mechanism for conflict prevention, management, resolution, peacekeeping and security (2001); other relevant international instruments governing election observation as well as the legal framework regulating the presidential and parliamentary elections in Burkina Faso.
