Ecuador 2025 Elections: A-WEB Mission Highlights and Recommendations
Last updated 2025-05-26

In response to invitations from the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador, A-WEB deployed two election observation missions in 2025—first for the General Elections in February and later for the Presidential Runoff in April. The missions brought together representatives from electoral bodies across Latin America, reflecting A-WEB’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and knowledge exchange in electoral management.

Among the recommendations made after the General Elections in February, which were acknowledged and shared by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador, the A-WEB mission emphasized the following:

- Improving training for police and armed forces personnel to ensure clear protocols and avoid interference in polling station operations;

- Avoiding the placement of polling stations in open-air locations and instead guaranteeing accessible and protected environments for voters and election officials;

- Designing more effective incentives for polling station members, including ensuring that each station includes at least one member with prior election experience to enhance operational continuity and effectiveness.

These recommendations, grounded in direct observation and international best practices, aim to reinforce the transparency, professionalism, and inclusivity of Ecuador’s electoral framework. A-WEB will continue to collaborate with the CNE and other stakeholders to promote continuous learning and innovation in election management.

To build on this effort, A-WEB has been invited to take part in the Validation Event of Findings and Recommendations – 2025 General Elections, hosted by the National Electoral Council of Ecuador. The event, which will take place in Quito from June 11 to 12, 2025, will bring together national and international missions, including UNIORE, AMEA, and the OAS, and will include a joint session with A-WEB. This workshop will serve as a platform to explore how the recommendations presented by electoral observers can be applied to enhance future electoral processes in Ecuador.
