A WEB

The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Independent Election Commission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IEC) on March 20, 2017 in Manila, the Philippines. In the MOU Kim Yong-Hi, Secretary General to A-WEB, and Najibullah Ahmadzai, President to IEC, promised each other to establish a mechanism for cooperation in the design and implementation of the electoral process, and for mutual consultation and cooperation in the field of electoral management and administration.

The main agendas of this MOU are on: convening of workshops, focus group discussion or seminars, jointly held by the Parties, on topics of particular interests to them; designing and conducting capacity building training for electoral officials of IEC to help them acquire necessary skills and understanding in the effective electoral administration; and providing technical and administrative assistance under mutual agreement for the IEC to strengthen its institutional capacity in the field of electoral information and communication technology and to ensure a credible and effective electoral process through the application of innovative technologies.
