The A-WEB Secretariat Joined International Election Observation Missions for 2020 Peruvian Parliamentary Elections
At the invitation of the National Court of Elections (JNE) of Peru, the A-WEB Secretariat had an opportunity to join international observers for the 2020 Peruvian parliamentary elections held on 26 January 2020.
The elections, which were scheduled to take place in 2021, were called after President Martin Vizcarra dissolved the Congress in September 2019. The JNE of Peru invited a total of 230 international observers from the A-WEB Secretariat, the European Union (EU), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (UNIORE), the Latin American Council of Electoral Experts (CEELA), etc.
The newly elected 130 legislators will hold office only until scheduled presidential and congressional elections in 2021. While observing the election, the delegation of the A-WEB Secretariat had a chance to exchange information, discuss ideas for improving election management and explore ways to promote partnership with regional associations of election bodies.
