Voter education is essential to ensuring that voters can
effectively exercise their voting rights and express their political will
through the electoral process. Well-planned voter education programs can
motivate and encourage citizens to participate in the voting process. “The Strengthening Voter Education Course” is designed to help participants identify considerations when planning and implementing voter education programs and to support election management bodies to develop their own voter outreach programs.
Proving the high interest in voter education, twenty-five election officials from four countries, including Cambodia, Mauritius, Mongolia, and the Philippines, took part in the course and actively shared their insights and experiences. “The Strengthening Voter Education Course” under the Election Management Capacity Building Program took place in a virtual setting from May 18 to 27, 2022.
In response to the course survey, participants shared their impressions and opinions about the program. Many stated they got knowledge that helped them understand their voter audience better, which has met or exceeded their expectations. Ms.Maria Aurea Bo-Bunao, an attorney for the Commission on Elections from the Philippines, said her favorite activity during the course was developing an action plan. She thought the activity helped each participant formulate their action plan under the guidance of Professor Park Kyung-Bae from the Korea Institute for Development Strategy. She also added that this course has allowed her to gain more knowledge that would help participants in their jobs as voter education practitioners.

Phase 2 is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 4, 2022, focusing on developing voter education strategies to promote the effectiveness of voter outreach activities.
