Armenia Regular Elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan

The Armenian opposition won the Yerevan city council election on September 17, 2023, securing 37 of the 63 seats. The Yerevan Council of Elders is comprised of 65 members and elected for a 5-year term. Voter turnout was low, at 28.44%. This is a significant change in the city's political landscape, as the ruling Republican Party has held a majority in the council since 2009. The opposition's victory is seen as a sign of growing discontent with the current government.
