Participation in the Election Observation Program in the Dominican Republic

Upon an invitation from the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the Dominican Republic, an A-WEB delegation composed of Secretariat officers and led by Mr. Mosotho Moepya, Chairperson of A-WEB and the Electoral Commission of South Africa, participated in the Election Observation Program for the 2024 Municipal Elections, scheduled to take place on  February 18, 2024. The program started with welcoming remarks from Dr. Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, Chairperson of the JCE and later, the delegation engaged in informative sessions hosted by the JCE, covering topics such as the election system and technology.

Participants had a chance to interact with other representatives from EMBs across Latin America and delegates from different CSOs and NGOs.

On election day, the delegates observed a total of 10 polling centers, taking into consideration the implementation of the auxiliary polling stations, which were introduced to help PwDs and the elderly have easier access to polling stations in centers where there were polling stations located on the second floor.

The A-WEB delegates were able to observe first-hand the counting and transmission of results.

The Dominican Republic is set to hold Presidential and Legislative elections on May 19, 2024.
