On November 24, Director General Kim, Jeong-Gon participated in the International Forum "Empowering Community of Democracies," co-organized by East Asia Institute and Asia Democracy Network.
The aim of the forum was to discuss action plans to empower the Community of Democracies, and to examine an agenda on the upcoming 9th Community of Democracies Ministerial Conference and Civil Society Conference to be held in July 2015 in El Salvador.
During a special session on elections, Director General Kim presented on "Challenges and Response of A-WEB for Free and Fair Elections."
In his presentation, Director General Kim cited the abuse of state resources in campaigning and threats from the use of the Internet in election as challenges for free and fair elections. He also introduced the actions that A-WEB is taking to tackle these challenges. His presentation attracted great attention of the audience.
Director General Kim also touched upon the use of development aid from member countries in the Community of Democracies to realize free and fair elections. Also, he put forth what Korean civil organizations have done to make elections in Korea free and fair as they are today. |
