An MOU signed between A-WEB and the Asia Foundation
Last updated 2015-06-18

Promising an active collaboration in providing an effective assistance to the developing democracies that struggle to establish sustainable democracy, the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) and the Asia Foundation (TAF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 16th, at the A-WEB Secretariat in Songdo, Incheon.

At the MoU signing ceremony, both organizations agreed to cooperate in various projects including i) capacity building training program for election administrators, legal experts and ICT personnel; ii) building election-related knowledge network; iii) election observation program; and iv) organization of seminars targeted for public policy makers.

The ceremony was attended by Yong-Hi Kim, the Secretary General of A-WEB, David Arnold, the President of the Asia Foundation, and other election experts.

The Asia Foundation is a Non-profit organization founded in 1954 by the United States to promote prosperity and peace in Asia. TAF has been providing support for political, economic, cultural, and educational development programs. Beginning from small projects such as donations of paper for production of children’s textbooks, TAF, in particular, had put efforts in the re-construction of the governing system in Korea during the post Korean War era.

A-WEB, since its inception in 2013, has been conducting capacity building training programs with a goal of sharing election know-how accumulated in advanced democracies with nascent democracies. A-WEB’s capacity as an association of EMBs around the world is believed to serve as a key for success as the Asian Foundation puts forward various projects beyond Asia.
