Appointment of Chief Elections Officer -contributed by Malawi Electoral Commission-
The Malawi Electoral Commission had announced the appointment of Mr. Andrew Mpesi as Chief Elections Officer. He assumed office on August 22, 2022. A statement from the Commission released on August 5, 2022, described Mr. Mpesi as a successful candidate after an elaborate recruitment process culminating in rigorous interviews conducted in July 2022.
Mr. Mpesi holds a Master of Arts (Political Science), Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration) and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Systems Management. He has worked for over 18 years at the senior management level in the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia. He joined the Malawi Electoral Commission from USAID Malawi, where he worked as a Governance Specialist responsible for elections and parliamentary portfolio.
About his appointment, Mr. Mpesi said,"I'm excited to join the Commission to lead the Secretariat in achieving its vision To be a highly professional Electoral Management Body that delivers credible elections in Malawi." Malawi has a schedule to hold the next general elections in September 2025.
