20th Anniversary of the CIS Convention on Election Standards Celebrated in St. Petersburg

-contributed by the Central Election Commission of Russia-

On October 6 to 7, 2022, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation (CEC of Russia), the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States and the CIS Executive Committee hosted the International Research-to-Practice Conference "The CIS Convention on Democratic Election Standards: Open Space for International Cooperation" in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Conference was assembled to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights, and Freedoms in the Commonwealth. The Convention is the first and only international legal instrument of a legally binding nature to date, setting standards for democratic elections and the obligation of states to ensure them.

Three hundred fifty (350) participants from 20 countries and ten international organizations, including A-WEB, attended the Conference. The CEC of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, respectively, also showcased their achievements at the exhibition "Advanced technologies in the electoral process," a unit event of the Conference.
