Open door days “Promotion of new technologies in the electoral process” During the period of 9-13 October 2023, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC of BiH, or Commission) has organized “Open Door Days: promotion of new technologies in the electoral process,” in cooperation with the Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AEOBiH).
There was excellent attendance of high
school/university students, members of government bodies, representatives of
political parties, members of municipal/city election commissions, journalists,
representatives of embassies and international organizations in BiH, and other
interested individuals and organizations.
The event
was an opportunity for the students, elected and appointed members of
government bodies, representatives of political parties, journalists, and other
interested parties to talk with representatives of the CEC of BiH about the
electoral system and electoral legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and
to see practical presentation of the most modern equipment that is used at the
polling stations.
The
President and Members of the CEC of BiH, as well as the officials of the
Secretariat of the Commission, were available to visitors throughout the event
and answered questions and provided additional information about each of the
steps in using state-of-the-art equipment at polling stations. Around 700
people visited the BiH CEC during this period.
Open door
days are just one of the activities of the CEC of BiH in its efforts to promote
and initiate the improvement of the electoral process in the country. These
efforts will continue by promoting and presenting new technologies in the
electoral process in various municipalities/cities in BiH and through pilot
projects.
Namely, the
CEC of BiH, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia
and Herzegovina and the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data
Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA), has started the implementation of
the “Pilot project of European Union support for the introduction of new
technologies in the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” about which
the public will be informed in a timely manner.
In the coming period, the CEC of BiH will, under its legal powers, supplement its earlier Initiative for changes to the Election Law, propose legal solutions for introducing new technologies in the electoral process and submit them to the Parliamentary Assembly. |
