 Election system 

 · Number of polling stations: 85,307

 · Opening and closing time of polling stations 

  -  8 am and 6 pm respectively

 · Number of registered voters: 105,955,409 (2018 elections)

 · Voter turnout: 50.14% (2018 parliamentary elections)

 · Voting age: 18 

 - Presidential: Indirectly elected by an electoral college of members of the Senate, National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies to serve a 5-year term. Candidates must be older than 45 and Muslim.

 - Parliamentary: 

   1. Senate(upper house) members are chosen by elected provincial legislators by indirect vote. Half of the membership is renewed every three years. 

   2. National Assembly(lower house) members are elected by majority vote in single-member

constituencies. 70 seats, 60 reserved for women and 10 for nonMuslims, are directly elected by proportional representation vote.

 - Local elections

   1. Elections to the local government institutions are held after every four years on a nonparty basis by the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan. 

   2. Members of the Union Council including Union Administrator and Vice Union Administrator are elected through direct elections based on adult franchise and on the basis of joint electorate. However, for the election to the reserved seats for Women in Zila council proportionately divided among towns shall be all members of the Union Councils in a town. 

 

 · Voting process

   1. Verify National Identity Card -> Receive a Ballot Paper -> Mark on the Ballot Paper  -> Cast the Ballot

   2. In case a voter is so incapacitated that he cannot vote without the assistance of his companion, the Presiding Officer shall allow him such assistance.

 

 · Counting process

   1. The counting takes place inside the polling stations in the presence of officials and representatives

   2. The local TV news networks start reporting the counting trends from the polling stations or district administration offices. 

 

 · Time to take to announce voting results in the country: within midnight of the election day
