 Election system  

· Number of polling stations: 2,300

· Opening and closing time of polling stations

 -  7 am and 7 pm respectively

· Number of registered voters: 1,092,407 (2005 election)

· Voter turnout: 73.42% (2005 presidential election)

· Voting age: 18 

Presidential: Absolute majority vote through a two-round system

Parliamentary

  1. Closed-list proportional representation system

  2. 66 members are elected through a party-list proportional representation system

  3. 66 members are elected by relative majority vote in multi-member constituencies

 

· Voting process 

  1. Each voter received two ballots. 

  2. Cast ballots

  3. The candidates with the most votes were elected. 

 

· Counting process 

  1. Manual Count in Polling Station: take each ballot out of the box one by one consecutively, and display it to the attending public witnesses.

  2. ​Completed counting and protocols are sent to the DECs for compilation by constituency. 

  3. Once the DEC has completed this task, the provisional results are forwarded to the Central Elections Commission(CEC) and partial results are published. 

  4. The preliminary results undergo a second step of scrutiny by the CEC and the final results are announced. 

 

· Time to take to announce voting results in the country: Around 5 days of closing of polling stations, 

preliminary results appear
